Little Bill and the rest of the cookies made their way home after that. Their parents rejoiced upon their return.
The cookies would tell their story of how they had been kidnapped and kept in a sack. How Chuckles had beaten the snails of the forest mercilessly. And how they had been nearly fed to the horrible Chob.
But Little Bill always pointed out to everyone who would listen, that Chuckles hadn't fed them to the Chob. In fact, Chuckles had sacrificed himself to save the cookies in the end. He couldn't explain exactly why this had happened, but it mattered to him that it did.
Little Bill grew up. But he never forgot Chuckles. He knew that something had turned Chuckles away from a desperate act of evil to an act of heroism. It didn't make things right, but Little Bill was still curioius.
